Member Care Tips - Part 1
When I came back to America after living overseas one of the things that shocked me was how polarized America was and how high the rhetoric had become. America got angry while I was gone.
I am concerned that polarization and rhetoric has influenced how the church deals with certain issues. When delicate issues arise or when controversial decisions are made, I am afraid we become divided quickly and our language becomes heightened.
One of the verses God has been dealing with me is Titus 3:2 ”to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.“ ESV
This commandment from God challenges me. Speak evil of no one! Show perfect courtesy toward all people. I did a Greek study on the word “all”. It means everybody!!!
When we discuss issues, post on social media, or speak about someone, this verse applies. Speak evil of no one. Avoid quarreling. Be moderate in your words. Be humble. Consider others better than yourself.
My hope is the church can show the world a better way. We can speak truth, stand up for justice, defend the weak and speak evil of no one, demonstrating perfect courtesy toward all people.
The world would be a better place. The world would be a safer place. Christ would be glorified.
It is easy to apply this to others when we hear them speak or read their posts. I want to apply it to myself. I ask God to put a guard on my mouth and tongue. I want my words to be full of mercy and grace.
I desire a revolution of kindness, gentleness, and courtesy.
